MAY MEETING

The May meeting of the Jackson County Retired School Personnel will be held on Tuesday, May 19^th at 11:30 a.m. at Ryan’s Steakhouse.

2009 NCRSP STATE CONVENTION

JCRSP President Ken Nicholson attended the 2009 NCRSP State Convention in Durham.   Most of the conference was devoted to the budget crisis, the State Health Plan and increasing financial support from the legislature to the retirement system.

PROGRAM

The program for May will be an extension of our regular meeting to discuss the State Health Plan, plans to persuade the legislature to increase the state’s contribution to the Teachers and State Employees Retirement System, and a continuation of the District 1 Legislative Committee.

NEW PRESIDENT

Effective July 1, 2009 Libby Knight will become president of JCRSP.  On July 1 Ken Nicholson will become president of NCRSP District 1.

LEGISLATIVE STUMP MEETING

Jackson, Macon, and Swain County Retired School Personnel met on Friday, April 3^rd with Senator John Snow and Representative Phil Haire at the new Macon County Library.  Representative Roger West was unable to attend due to a committee meeting in Raleigh.  JCRSP was represented by Libby Knight, Peggy Jones, Gail Hensley, Doris Higdon, Penny Graham, Carol LaTorre, Audrey Tritt, Joanne Bradley, Ken Nicholson, and prospective member, Mary Owen.

SCHOLARSHIP

If you have not made your $10.00 contribution for the Yvonne Saddler Nielsen Scholarship please do so by May 31^st.  You may contribute at the May 19^th meeting or mail your contribution to Louise Marshall, P. O. Box 684,  Cullowhee, NC 28723.

The next meeting of JCRSP will be on Tuesday, August 18^th,  2009 at 11:30 a.m. at Ryan’s Steakhouse.
